Key Issues
Frederick is a wonderful place to live, work, and create. These are the top issues that I would like to work on to help shape our shared future.
Most of the issues facing our growing city are multi-faceted and will require the intentional collaboration between the city, organizations, stakeholders and residents.
Our Neighborhood Advisory Councils (NAC) are a terrific way to get involved and make your voice heard.

What do you see as the top issues facing the City of Frederick?
The Arts
Frederick’s vibrant arts community is a cornerstone of our city’s identity and a powerful economic driver. By working alongside residents, arts organizations, and local artists, we can create sustainable, affordable spaces for artists to work and perform, expand public art initiatives, and make arts programming accessible to all. Community-driven investments in the arts strengthen our local economy, enrich our culture, and ensure that Frederick remains a dynamic place to live and create.
Traffic Calming & Pedestrian safety
Traffic calming makes neighborhoods safer and more livable by slowing down cars and improving conditions for pedestrians and cyclists. With direct input from residents and neighborhood groups, we can implement measures like speed humps, raised crosswalks, narrower streets, pavement markings, and a dedicated traffic unit in the Frederick Police Department. By working together, we can create streets that prioritize safety, accessibility, and the needs of the entire community.
Development
Development in Frederick should create vibrant, functional, and well-supported spaces that reflect the needs of residents. Through collaboration with neighborhoods, local businesses, and community stakeholders, we can implement thoughtful improvements like wider sidewalks, separate bike lanes, green spaces, and mixed-use developments that seamlessly blend residential and commercial areas. Investing in the creation and renovation of infrastructure will ensure that Frederick can support its growing population while preserving its unique character. By prioritizing walkability and community connectivity, we can build a city that works for everyone.
Affordable Housing
Ensuring access to affordable housing is key to building a thriving and inclusive Frederick. By working with residents, neighborhood organizations, and housing advocates, we can advance fair housing policies, implement creative zoning solutions, and forge strong partnerships to expand affordable options. A collaborative approach to housing will strengthen our community, support local businesses, and provide lasting stability for families and individuals.
Environment & Sustainability
A healthy environment is essential to Frederick’s long-term vitality. By working with residents, businesses, and community organizations, we can implement sustainable policies that protect our natural resources, reduce our carbon footprint, and promote green infrastructure. Expanding tree canopy, investing in renewable energy, improving stormwater management, broadening our composting program, and enhancing public transportation options will help create a cleaner, more resilient city. Prioritizing sustainability not only safeguards our environment but also strengthens our economy and improves quality of life for all who call Frederick home.
